I was fortunate enough to have travelled back to Japan in 2011. In my meanderings and wanderings about and around Tokyo and vicinity, I was rewarded with a wide variety and seemingly disparate forms of Japanese architecture, thus the contrasting images below. From traditional minka to modern apartment complexes, hotels to residences – modern and otherwise…

    Hi, again, Mr. Clough,

    It so happens that I am just now plotting a trip to Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima this fall.

    By a minor miracle, I managed to obtain a ticket to a September performance of Grieg’s Concerto by Nobuyuki Tsujii with conductor Vladimir Ashkenazym in Tokyo! This was not easy to do, believe me – tickets for the concert were sold out almost instantly.

    I have been in Japan before, but this time I have learned a little conversational Japanese, and I will be looking at Japanese architecture with fresh eyes.
